Did she pester me to take her to see 1D? No! (thank goodness!) Did she want to decorate cakes, go swimming or watch a movie? No, everyone does that, Mum. What I really, really, want is a vintage-themed party and photoshoot with two of my best friends! Oh, and can Kitty-Boo do our hair? Well, actually, what I really, really want is a Pug, but I know you're not going to get me one of those, at least not a real one anyway. (Correct - she knows not to push it too far.)
But it's not every day that your daughter turns ten. And I might be at least partly responsible for the love of all things vintage, photography and the introduction to Kitty-Boo at Shoreham's Johnny Loves June vintage fair. Or maybe it was at Time Out Studio when she had her nails done, I can't remember. I have photos of me aged ten in Clothkits dungarees and a bowl cut. Ten clearly isn't what it used to be.
I'm pretty sure the photoshoot idea was probably just to get my attention, which worked an absolute treat, as of course she knew it would. She even listed the benefits - you're going to be there anyway, Mum; photoshoots are what you do; and it won't cost you anything. Well, she had a point...
Knowing how booked up she gets, I wasted no time in messaging Kitty-Boo, and then ('cause I'm a bit of a softy, and after all, I had saved money on the photographer!) I asked Adele from Brighton Cakes if they could possibly, maybe, make the cutest Pug dog of the Victoria Sponge kind. I love a challenge, was her response - bingo!
On the day, even the weather was kind. The pug cake was adorable, and it was apparently the best party EVER! As a working Mum, I don't always get it right, but I'll take praise where I can! And a huge, huge recommendation from my daughter and her friends to two of the most talented Mums I know - Kitty-Boo and Adele. You made it really special - thank you.
OK, so the cartwheels left the hair a little disheveled, but hey, they are only kids after all, and boy did we have fun!
Then back home in time for the amazing Pug Cake created by Adele of Brighton Cakes:
He tasted wonderful too - even after three days, which was how long it took until the birthday girl could bear to eat him!
Kids parties, Hen nights or Weddings - Kitty-Boo Hair & Make Up, Brighton Cakes and Jenny Rutterford Photography (me!) do them all! We're all passionate about what we do, so if you're stuck for ideas, or just want something a little special for your next event, then please give one of us a call - oh, and do tell them I sent you!
Thanks for stopping by,
